What to do when…

Residential Storm Damage Repair

Simple. CALL US and get no cost guidance through the insurance claims process.

“He who represents himself has a fool for a client” – Abraham Lincoln

So now that disaster has struck, and that insurance policy you’ve paid for is going to get tested, certain questions will be answered, like:

  • Is State Farm really “Like a Good Neighbor?”
  • Are you really in “Good Hands” with Allstate?
  • Is Nationwide really “on your side”?

The answers to all these questions are… No, No, and No.

Any honest insurance adjuster will tell you that their goal on every claim they adjust is to reach a settlement with the policy holder for the LOWEST DOLLAR AMOUNT THEY CAN. It is the adjuster’s job, simple as that, to do so. Basically, they give you an attractive settlement offer in hopes you take it and run, so that they can avoid, if possible, giving you a full settlement that fully restores your loss.

Here at Shelter Construction we respect the job insurance companies do, we work closely and respectfully with them every day.

They are not evil villains out to ruin your day. But understand what their relationship with you really is, and what their motivation is: They have a contractual obligation to NEGOTIATE a settlement with you should you experience certain types of losses as defined by your policy terms and conditions. The way they are supposed to go about this process is governed by Federal and State Statutes, building codes, environmental regulations, local ordinance, and manufacturers specifications.

It is a very complex field. The deck is stacked against the building owner.

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE DO, AND THE BIGGEST REASON WE SHOULD BE ON YOUR TEAM FROM THE VERY START OF YOUR CLAIM – WE LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD BETTER THAN ANY OTHER ROOFING COMPANY IN OUR MARKET. Period. I am certain of it.

We are a thoroughly trained, very experienced, carefully constructed team of insurance claims processing experts who also happen to be top shelf exterior construction experts. We know most Insurance Companies “settlement playbook” better than their own people do because we process 100’s and 100’s of their claims each year.

Here is just one example of a homeowner that benefited from this experience.

One-inch hail came through the Lake Minnetonka area in September of 2018. State Farm was the insurance company.

Their claim adjust came out, found dents on some flashing, valued it at $985, and what a bad break, the deductible was $1000. We said thank you. We took that claim paperwork, and sent in a supplement bid request, documentation on codes, discontinued product, manufacturers installation guidelines, and additional photos from jobsite – and two weeks later State Farm Adjusted the Claim Settlement award up to a full roof and metals replacement with a total value exceeding $32,000.

I am always happy when we can get a full and fair settlement for any property owner. I was particularly happy in this instance because I OWN THIS PROPERTY. My roof was about 15 years old and I was happy to get a full replacement roof, as I am certain I was entitled to.

For those of you with big buildings, and big claim amounts, you need us even more than the homeowners we work with. You might be a very experienced business person, successful and smart in every way, you may even be an attorney… but if you have not had years of experience wrestling with insurance claims like we have, you will be outgunned by your insurance company, and the bigger the potential claim, the more insurance companies fall back on their reliable and time honored three preferred method to minimize claims…. DELAY, DENY, AND DEFEND.

We are a very good contractor. Our A+ BBB rating and Master Elite Status are evidence of that. But we are, in my opinion, extraordinary at this insurance claims management aspect of the business. We do it by understanding the process of the insurance negotiation as well as anyone in the business. We never take shortcuts, we do everything within the bounds of the law and the concept of acting in good faith.

This is a key part of how we provide you with “Shelter From the Storm”.

I am very proud of the service we provide our customers in this vital but often overlooked part of the restoration business.

The Shelter Construction Team looks forward to advocating for you, and leveling your playing field.
